Whitetail Time Machine is a glimpse back into the glory days of trophy deer hunting, as seen through the eyes and camera lenses of North American Whitetail readers. Once a week for the remainder of 2024, our edit staff is publishing photos sent to us by fans and followers. These are photos that were mailed to us in the 1980s and 90s, all of which we found stowed away in a huge box that’d been tucked in a corner of our office in Kennesaw, Georgia, prior to its closing.
These photos came to us from hunters across the continent. And trust us when we say they’re “old school” cool. You’ll see everything from vintage camo patterns, classic pickup trucks, retro hairstyles, hunting bows and guns from yesteryear… and of course, big whitetail bucks!
This week, we’re featuring yet another massive Canadian buck. This one hails from Saskatchewan and was taken in the early 1990s (exact year unknown). Terry Novakovski’s trophy first appeared in NAW back in 1994 in the Hall of Fame department of the October issue. The happy, orange-clad hunter poses with the huge non-typical afront a snow-covered spruce on what must’ve been a bitter-cold northern day. Check it out!
Too Many Points to Count Everybody knows Saskatchewan is home to many monster bucks, and Saskatoon resident Terry Novakovski got one of them a couple seasons ago. His awesome non-typical scores 229 5/8 Boone & Crockett points, making him one of the better bucks shot there in recent years (written in 1994).
